Delicious!! My oldest recommended that we stop for a unique experience and great cheesesteaks. Don’t be surprised, the place has been around forever, the neighborhood needs love and the restaurant is a classic dive, but SO worth it! The nicest people! Fast service. Tables and a bar area for those staying to eat. They also do a good take away business. We loved it. Small parking lot, street parking as well.
Donkey's Place has the most delicious cheese steak anywhere! ❤️ Their onion rings were huge, hot, and crispy. I drank a nice cold beer too. We will definitely return soon.
Several people recommended it so I decided to give it a try. I would have liked to talk to the staff more but I showed up right before the lunch rush so it was short lived. Food was delicious. My first “round” Philly. Seasoned fries and cheese was delish too!

I consistently saw Donkey’s Place cheesesteak at the top of "best cheesesteak" lists, and I’d agree. I especially like it as a sandwich. But it’s not just the cheesesteak, which was outstanding. It’s the whole experience. It has that old bar charm, a place with a neighborhood feel where all kinds of people come, from Philly, N.J., and visiting cheesesteak enthusiasts like me. It’s worth the trip.
This place totally lives up to the hype. Got a cheesesteak, onion rings, and a coke. Needed a to-go box for half the sandwich. While the rings were OK, the cheesesteak is the best I've ever had in the Philly area after living here for over 20 years. Perfect, silky blend of meat. Cheese, and fried onions. Donkey's is absolutely a dive, but that's part of it's charm. Go there. You'll regret it if you wait so long like I did!
Are you kidding me? This is the best steak I’ve ever had! The onion rings were very good as well. The wings are outstanding! A genuine, beat up place with wonderful people and great food!
We just happen to be coming through from out of town and wanted to get a Philly cheese steak before we took my daughter to the aquarium. The food was phenomenal 😎👍👍 It's definitely not what I would describe as the nicest part of town, but the staff was super friendly and the food/service more than made up for it. Definitely worth the trip, and Id eat there again in a heartbeat.
Best cheesesteak I’ve ever had... the Kaiser roll is unmatched, along with the onions. So simple yet tasty. I’m not a big meat person either but did not feel grossed out at all while eating this. The cheesesteak is not greasy at all which can definitely be a turnoff even if it’s good. My expectations were high coming in due to the history of this place, and safe to say the bar was met. Very nostalgic and nice setting and I felt very comfortable inside. Staff is very sweet and great service.
